Inspiration

Together with their suppliers, Jo and Mario scaled back their plans so they could still get married on their original wedding date in 2020. Jo wore her White by Vera Wang wedding dress and Mario wore a bespoke suit. They live-streamed their ceremony on YouTube so their friends and family all over the world could tune in, and were presented with a compilation of video messages in return. Although it wasn't the day they had originally planned, they fully embraced their micro wedding and plan to have a big party next year.

What Made Your Day Unique

We realised early on that, to be able to get married at all this year, it would be very different from what we’d originally envisaged. Though it would have been amazing to have all our friends and family there in person, the situation made us focus on what was most important to us: becoming Mr and Mrs no matter what. As we got married only a few weeks after the restrictions lifted, we weren’t able to have any reception after the ceremony, so instead decorated the car park on our street and had a socially distanced glass of bubbles with our guests in the sunshine. It was nothing like we’d planned, but was the most joyous day, and more than we could ever have hoped for considering everything!

White by Vera Wang

Mario’s favourite moment was seeing Jo arrive at the church in her White by Vera Wang wedding dress. Once they were married they headed off for some couples portraits with Rock My Wedding recommended supplier Joasis Photography, and were overwhelmed with cheers and congratulations from onlookers. "It felt really special to be able to share it with our entire neighbourhood."

Inspiration & Styling

The original vision was to blend Mario’s Goan / Kenyan heritage with some English traditions to represent Jo. We wanted to celebrate in London, as it's where we met and where our lives are based. Though we were always going to get married in our local church, we embraced the ‘local’ vibe to walk our guests back to our street, stopping for photos on the way, and then got them to help decorate the car park with bunting and balloons. The cherry on top was that our caterer was able to deliver takeaway versions of the amazing Goan buffet we had initially planned, for us to enjoy at home.

Jo & Mario

Jo and Mario found many of their suppliers via Rock My Wedding. "Everyone was so understanding and flexible with the evolving situation." They also found their wedding readings; ‘Love is Patient, Love is Kind’ and ‘Union’ by Robert Fulghum.
