Inspiration

Broderie Anglaise is French for 'English embroidery' which as you know anything French we're totally on board with. As we are with Sophie's Broderie Anglaise wedding dress and flower crown combo. What a look, and what a wedding! Although this wasn't Sophie and John's original plan. Their intimate garden party was just perfect. Plus, they get to do it all again later this year in part two

Broderie Anglaise wedding dress and colourful flower crown for an intimate garden party wedding.

We had originally planned a wedding for 120 guests at RHS Wisley in June 2020, which had to be postponed, but we decided getting married was more important so we re-planned a smaller ceremony as soon as we were allowed. We had the most gorgeous sunny day to celebrate in the church Sophie’s parents got married 31 years earlier, in front of nearly all of our favourite people (bar 4 stuck in the US due to the travel ban!). And honestly, whilst it was nothing like we planned, it was the most amazing, loving and fun day ever.

VIBE

The original vibe for our planned wedding was more restrained whites and botanical greens, so as not to compete with the plants at Wisley. But for this replanned day, we really leant into the late summer, kind of Italian vibe - very casual with lots of gorgeous burnt oranges and reds. All inspired by dahlias which Sophie always remembers her granny growing in her garden.

MOMENTS

Seeing the smile on Sophie's face all day was amazing. I thought her smile was so big it would pop off her face. Seeing all our best friends and family really hanging out together in a way that might never have at a bigger wedding was beautiful. Brothers and friends and parents and partners all there to celebrate us.

The cutwork detail and coloured embroidery on Sophie's Broderie Anglaise wedding dress is pure fire!

Sophie's mum (Sarah) and brother (@tomappetit on IG) really pulled out the stops on the food, not to forget John's mum's (Victoria) jollof rice! It was so special seeing everyone sit down to eat and drink together on this gloriously sunny day. Sophie's Dad (Gordon) helped us choose the wines and John created his own wedding day cocktail (Lillet Blanc, Cava, Angostura Bitters and Soda). Our suppliers were amazing, but it was really a family effort to make everything as perfect and beautiful as it was.

There are so many fabrics available when it comes to designing a wedding dress. Sophie's garden party Broderie Anglaise wedding dress is perfect for their laid-back celebration. But, I wonder what she'll choose for her bigger celebration...? If you need more advice on silhouettes, trains and necklines, read our Wedding Dress Guide.
