Inspiration

This Hackney Town Hall wedding has us feeling like we’re in need of a party… quite often we’re a little jealous we didn’t experience a wedding first hand - and this is one of them! Despite having originally invited 185 guests, Ellie & Tom went ahead with a 30 person wedding. Wanting a relaxed and informal feel, they threw tradition out the window! Implementing aspects that would make their guests and themselves happy. There was plenty of food, drink and laughter throughout the day. Seriously… we’re genuinely upset we weren’t there! Oh, and the bride has a pretty awesome dress shopping story… read below!

Hackney Town Hall wedding complete with DIY bridal platforms

I couldn't find a pair of fun, personal shoes that had a bit of a heel and enabled me to walk a lot in... so I made my own! I bought a pair of 90s platform boots and added the sparkles, colours and 'wifey for lifey' myself.

WEDDING GOWN

One of our oldest and dearest family friends promised years ago they would buy my wedding dress if I ever got married. So, after we got engaged, they organised for me and my mum to fly out to New York and go to Kleinfeld Bridal to find my wedding dress. We had the most magical weekend, met Randy from 'Say Yes To The Dress' (and got a photo)! I found the most perfect dress - not what I thought I wanted at all! Such a great weekend and kind gesture from our friends.

FAVOURITE MOMENT

Since we were restricted to COVID numbers, my mum organised for friends and family to come and celebrate outside the Town Hall with champagne (a total surprise to us)! Two of the Ushers had boomboxes and we then walked (and danced) for half an hour through the streets of Hackney with champagne and music to the reception venue. it was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and everyone in the local area got involved and danced along with us!

We love a little DIY project… if you can’t find it - then have a go at doing it yourself!

We decided we would do all the flowers ourselves! So we went to the flower market at 5am the day before the wedding. Over a few cups of coffee and croissants, me, my mum and a good friend made all the bouquets, buttonholes and table decorations.
