Family Wedding At The Engine Works

Photography by Ross Alexander Photography

Grab the tissues, you may need them for this beautifully heartfelt wedding at The Engine Works. Michael & Adele met at just 17 years old, and are the owners of their chosen wedding venue, one of the most sought after in Scotland. Having both lost an immediate family member during the pandemic, they decided upon an intimate day, with just their three children. Having lovingly restored their stunning venue, the architecture spoke for itself and was enhanced by dried floral arrangements and twinkling festoon lighting. When the love exudes this much energy, it feels like there are 100 people in the room…

Our vibe was minimalist and keeping things natural. We initially fell in love with the building’s original features. We were keen to keep the focus on the architecture of the building.

THE ENGINE WORKS

We are business partners as well as husband and wife, and have three beautiful girls - Miren, Olivia and Emily, and have been a couple for 22 years (since we were 17). We bought The Engine Works in 2015 and spent four years tirelessly restoring it from an industrial ruin into a charming and elegant venue that exudes character – so it was extremely special for us to finally get married here. As Michael and I each lost an immediate family member during the pandemic, we decided on a small and intimate ceremony to cement our bond as a family unit.

FAVOURITE MOMENT

It would have to be exchanging our vows. Rachel our celebrant told the story of how we met and our journey as a couple beautifully. Just as Michael and I were starting to tear up, our three-year-old had an epic meltdown! She ended up being held by her dad for the duration of the ceremony. It was just a real-life element of having kids and everyone laughed their way through. She was just extremely tired! You can see from the images she decided to nap instead of joining us for the rest of the wedding pictures!

Don't sweat the small stuff. It will take care of itself. Focus on enjoying and cherishing every moment of your day with your family and friends.

The Engine Works is one of those industrial wedding venues we just adore! The backdrop truly speaks for itself. Of course, bold floral arrangements and some twinkling lights always help…
