In 2025, couples are increasingly prioritising authenticity and emotional storytelling when selecting their wedding photographer. They want their day to be captured in its purest form, true to life, unscripted, and timeless. Many couples are gravitating toward a documentary style, where moments unfold naturally, rather than overly staged or curated scenes.
I always send out a thorough photography timeline for couples to feed back on, alongside mood boards/inspo pictures, etc. I ask clients to send over any mood boards/inspo that they have to incorporate into my vision for the day, making sure that we get everything they want.
A key piece of advice is to involve your photographer early in the planning process. When I’m brought on from the outset, I can help shape a realistic timeline that prioritises light, flow, and photographic opportunities.
Couples don't want their guests waiting around for photos so group photographs are speedier and more fun, usually done straight after the ceremony and then the rest of the day can be more candid and relaxed with everyone just having a good time.
There’s a shift toward smaller, faster groupings with more energy and personality. Some couples even choose unposed family moments over staged ones, capturing laughter, hugs, or storytelling mid-conversation
Traditionally, group shots meant people standing stiffly in straight lines. While this is still the fastest method due to tight timelines, I do try to incorporate more creative, editorial-inspired poses where possible, such as seated family members, layered heights, natural interaction. These compositions feel more stylish and intentional, and my clients really appreciate that elevated look.
In 2025, couples are placing greater emphasis on emotional storytelling and authentic connection... someone who can translate atmosphere, intimacy, and unscripted moments into art.
Trust, communication, and shared vision matter just as much as portfolio quality now. Couples want someone who gets them, not just shoots them.
