Inspiration

A beautiful Scottish wedding at Barra Castle with gorgeous views over the Aberdeenshire countryside. The open and bright ceremony space, where the kilt-wearing groom waited for his bride, was decorated with fairy lights and foliage. The bridesmaids matched the groom in green with their dresses whilst the bride wore an embellished Lilian West wedding dress with a pinned updo. A lot of the decor was sourced from charity shops by the bride and groom themselves, adding a personal touch to the day and making everything that extra bit special!

What Made Our Day Unique

For us it was all about having the people we loved celebrate with us. Having our family and friends there made things so much more fun and special. The youngest people there were my four cousins (ages 10-12). I got them each a cheap second-hand digital camera and they spent the day running around photographing everything, with some fun resulting pictures! One of our friends ran a sweepstake on how long the best man's speech would be which was another fun touch.

The couple decided on green and white flowers and bouquets to help decorate the beautiful open venue, allowing the views of the Scottish countryside to speak for themselves with rustic touches added including tree slice table decor. And quirky table names made for a fun touch - choosing to use names of well known 'tables' e.g. multiplication, coffee, unforget!

Inspiration & Styling

The barn is already such a beautiful venue with spectacular views of the Aberdeenshire countryside so I wanted to keep things fairly simple to compliment that. I loved the natural vibes of the foliage and white flowers with the wooden interior of the barn. My mum isn't always so big on the "less is more" thing but after I reined her in a bit she did an amazing job of collecting lovely wee crystal vases from charity shops for our tables, which looked so lovely. Her ladder with photographs of our parents' and grandparents' weddings was particularly special.
