The high ceilings and distressed walls at Recommended venue, Blackfriars Priory really take your breath away don't they?! Dressed in dramatic drapes, minimalist wedding flowers and muted tones to really complement the historic venue. Adding a touch of elegance to this gothic inspiration are sequin and princess cut wedding dresses. Plus, a concrete wedding cake that looks so authentic you could almost mistake it for masonry from the building! Nestled in the heart of the City of Gloucester, Blackfriars Priory is a stunning example of a 13th Century medieval Priory. Following renovations, the beautiful historic fabric has been retained and complemented with contemporary design features such as a full glass wall overlooking the ancient ruin.
BLACKFRIARS PRIORY
Reminiscent of an Italian Monastery in Autumn, this editorial shoot took inspiration from the dramatic settings of both Blackfriars Priory and Gloucester Cathedral. Ancient pale stone walls provided the perfect backdrop to the dried, faded floral installations and shimmering dresses whilst muted Autumnal tones created a modern gothic ambience.
Styling
The table-scape provided by Virginia's Vintage Hire was the main focal point for this wedding inspiration. The striking addition of Mia Sylvia's hanging fabric installations gives a modern (and very on-trend) twist to this ancient setting. The Marble Cake Company provided the stunning stone textured wedding cakes, perfectly adorned with faded blooms.
Flowers
The flowers were chosen to bring a sense of fragility between these monumental sandstone walls... Mirroring the dusty textures and muted tones of the forgotten shadows with delicate petals. Long elegant flower stems in misty shades ascended from rustic cream glazed finger bowls to create the table centrepiece decor.
Don't worry a concrete wedding cake isn't actually made of concrete - they look good though, right?!
We gave Sonam sleek shiny, Hollywood waves for a modern bridal look. The second look was an effortless low pony, keeping it quite simple so as not to detract from the stunning dress she wore. Caitlin had naturally beautiful curls, so we just changed her parting slightly to add more volume.
When you think of gothic, you usually envision dark tones, moody photography and alternative fashion. But this fine art inspiration at BlackFriars Priory with muted tones and a subtle gothic theme couldn't be more romantic. And talking of romantic, did you spot the calligraphy inscribed glass bottles by Recommended suppliers, The Whole Caboodle? Definitely worth a second look if you didn't, because who can resist artistic-looking handwriting? We certainly can't!
