Alternative Engagement Rings: 30+ Unique & Meaningful Ideas

I work with both individuals and couples and I am finding that they are becoming more experiential when it comes to engagement ring designs, especially with the use of more unique coloured gemstones, like green and teal sapphires, very pale yellow diamonds, softer cornflower blue tones vs your royal blue sapphires and “pigeon-blood” rubies. 

In 2026, an ‘alternative’ engagement ring is really any ring that subverts tradition in order to tell its wearer’s unique story. Whether that’s a trend-led east-west design, or a vintage-style piece that harks back to the Art Deco period, we’re seeing couples choosing rings that feel authentic to them.

By designing a bespoke engagement ring, it is possible to tailor every aspect to be totally unique to the wearer, from both an aesthetic and practical point of view.

Design-wise, more seems to be more! Not necessarily when it comes to size, but thought - a considered design has real meaning and is a really romantic way of honouring the huge decision you are to make in accepting a proposal, even if the answer is obviously a yes! 

An engagement ring will be enjoyed on a daily basis, so it is important that it relates to the wearer and is a true reflection of their style. It shouldn’t be too heavily trend-led and must express a timeless feel if it is going to be worn for decades to come.
