Lulworth Castle Wedding with Pampas Grass Moon Gate & Neon Sign

Photography by Ochi Weddings
This Lulworth Castle wedding is pretty special! The day started with a quick dip for the groom and groomsmen before getting suited and booted for the beautiful ceremony in the great hall of the castle. A floral and pampas grass moon gate stood at the altar with foliage and light installations hanging above the bride as she walked to meet her groom. The breathtaking ceremony was followed by an equally impressive reception, littered with foliage, personalised signs and a boho-inspired photo area! Having moved from Singapore just two months before the big day, so their parents helped an awful lot with the organising, and we think they did an amazing job! The bride had originally struggled to find a dress that she both loved and felt herself in, then she went to Halfpenny London - one of our recommended suppliers - and didn't look back! Mel looked totally gorgeous in a simple bridal gown with a detachable tulle skirt over the top - which she later removed to dance the night away!

What Made Our Day Unique

The venue we fell in love with whilst beautiful and dramatic, was also a totally blank canvas; allowing us to handpick every little detail of the day. We’d been together 13 years when we got married so wanted our day to incorporate some of the things we love, or had been lucky enough to experience along the way. This included everything from serving wines from vineyards we’d visited in NZ and Aus to asking a Quartet that we’d seen in a London hotel many years before to come and play throughout the day. It really was our most perfect day with all of our favourite people from all over the world coming together!

Lulworth Castle Wedding

This couple fell in love with the grandeur of Lulworth Castle wedding venue and that it was a blank canvas for them to do exactly what they want with it for their day. And that's definitely what they did, from the ceremony to the reception, everything had this couple's stamp on it! Although there was one thing that the bride's parents had managed to sneak into the wedding without the couple knowing - an amazing surprise fireworks display to finish of the day!

Inspiration & Styling

It was really important to us that we and everyone had a lovely day! We aimed to create a relaxed vibe with an alternative approach to some of the more ‘formal’ elements that go hand in hand with weddings and something that we both loved stylistically. Good food, good wine, good music, good people! Styling was a really big thing for us, we definitely had quite specific ideas of what we hoped our day to look like. We loved the idea of having an industrial elegance with a modern twist with tons of leafy greens and neutral tones, utilising the exposed beams and all of the details in the castle. We were living in Singapore and only moved back to the UK two months before the wedding so my parents were hugely helpful in the styling process with 100s of emails going back and forth! We were fortunate to do some traveling before we left Singapore and we were definitely inspired by typical Australian wedding looks and wanted to incorporate as much pampas grass as we could get our hands on and not forgetting a grazing table (plus Cornish pasties) for the evening!
