Inspiration

You absolutely have to see this medieval wedding dress for a fantasy-themed wedding at Camp Katur. From a 'sword in the stone' cake to a Camelot map seating chart, wooden thrones and a fortune teller, it's taken us right into a scene from a movie! Siobhan and Sam had a woodland handfasting ceremony at their outdoor wedding, performed by Siobhan's aunt. The themed day was captured by Recommended photographer, Maddie Farris.

Gorgeous lace medieval wedding dress with custom sleeves

We both love medieval history and the fantasy genre. We’re often found wandering castles or watching Lord of the Rings or the BBC show, Merlin. So we wanted to theme our wedding around this and get our guests to experience what we both love.

Fantasy Theme

The couples' fave moment of the day was their 'sword in the stone' cake where they could pull out the sword to cut the cake with! We can confirm no one was harmed during the cake cutting! Also, let's talk about those place names! The couple looked up everyone’s surname and found the definition of what it meant along with their coat of arms to create place names with them. For the table plan, Sam found a map of Camelot and named each of the tables after places from Camelot as well as designed their seating chart on the map. They hired thrones and goblets, had a new coat of arms designed for their combined family names and used that to decorate napkins and stationery. Extra details included costumes, stocks and even a fortune-teller! But we don't need one of those to see that this was destined...

Medieval Wedding Dress

Siobhan's dress was one of her favourite things of the whole day. We think it might be ours too! She knew she wanted something medieval-inspired with big sleeves but struggled to find something that didn’t feel like a costume. Jean Jackson Couture understood her vision and added custom sleeves to her lace dress for a medieval-princess vibe. The couple knew they both wanted medieval/fantasy touches throughout. They looked at Merlin, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, some of their favourite things to watch (ours too!) to bring those touches to the woodland wedding with the decor, dress, and entertainment. Camp Katur has a relaxed, festival feel to it, which fitted Siobhan and Sam's medieval wedding day perfectly!

Feeling a medieval theme? Go all out and make sure your cake matches the theme too!

As we’re both huge Merlin fans and love Arthurian legend, we got the idea of a 'sword in the stone' cake where we could pull out the sword to cut the cake. We weren’t sure if it was going to be possible, but we met with Dee and she made it happen! It was a real showstopper moment and she also decorated it amazingly with dragons and swords. We loved it!
