The best compliment you can receive on your wedding day is, “You’re glowing!” It’s the best compliment because that glow is no easy feat to achieve. We’re no fairy godmother but this ultimate bridal skincare routine guarantees that radiant lit-from-within look. We spoke to the team at The Bridal Beauty Co to help break down the best ingredients that'll get your skin camera-ready. We've also included well as a complete on-the-day wedding skincare routine so you can focus on more important things—like deciding between the 4 flavours for each cake tier. Ready to glow? Let’s dive in.
You should ideally start with your skincare routine 12 months before your wedding day. This gives you enough time to find and try out products and treatments that work for you, and see the results from them. Once you’ve established a skincare routine, especially around 12 months before the big day, you’ll see amazing long-term results with your skin health and you can continue with the habits you’ve started. Head to our pre-wedding beauty treatments schedule and timeline for all the advice on when to book all your beauty treatments.
"Brides should focus on hydrating, brightening, and strengthening their skin barrier in the lead-up to their wedding. Key ingredients should include hyaluronic acid for deep hydration and a plump, dewy complexion, vitamin C to brighten skin and even tone, and niacinamide for reducing redness, refining pores, and strengthening the skin barrier. Looking to improve texture? Start incorporating retinol into your routine at least six months before the wedding to allow your skin time to adjust and minimise the risk of irritation or breakouts. Additionally, using SPF 30+ daily is essential to protect against UV damage and prevent hyperpigmentation."
Sophie Cullen, Beauty Editor at The Bridal Beauty Co
Treat yourself to regular facials in the lead-up to your wedding day. Nothing gives you that fresh glow quite like a professional facial. With so many incredible facialists out there and so many new techniques always being developed it can be hard to know what you need. The most important thing to look for are facials that focus on increasing collagen production and hydration. You can also use facials to target any concerns such as fine lines, acne or blemishes, hyperpigmentation or scarring. Getting a facial that uses active ingredients in combination with LED light therapy is a great way of targeting skin concerns.
How do you decide what cleaner is right for you? You’ll want to take into consideration your skin type and your main skin goal e.g. increase hydration and battle blemishes.
If you have dry skin, look for a gentle cleanser that's free of alcohol and fragrance, and contains emollients like glycerin.
If you have oily skin or blemish-prone skin, look for an oil-free cleanser that contains ingredients like niacinamide to balance oil production. You could also consider a cleanser with a gentle BHA to help unclog pores.
If you have combination or sensitive skin, you should choose an oil-free, fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic skin cleanser.
All that being said, double cleansing is something that has become very popular to really make sure your skin is squeaky clean. Despite the worry about using oil on oily skin, it’s actually proven that the two-step process of double cleansing can help reduce the likelihood of pore blockages from dead skin cells and makeup and other bacteria that cause breakouts. Oil fights oil and can help the dirt just slide right out. This works by using an oil-based cleanser followed by a water-based cleanser to remove that oily sheen that can be left behind.
After using this for months, we can safely say this is our current fave hydrating cleanser. This gentle daily cleanser removes oil and makeup easily while supporting your skin barrier and reducing inflammation.
With an oil-to-milk formula that includes safflower oil, protective moringa extract and vitamin E that cleanses and nourishes at the same time. This makes for the perfect first step in your double-cleansing routine.
This water-based gel cleanser rids impurities from the skin with a light, hypoallergenic gel formula that retains your skin's natural moisture instead of stripping it away.
Inspired by the effects of a world-class facial, this 3-in-1 cleanser (cream to foam to milk) bathes your skin in revitalising hydration and reduces the look of pores! Made with three expertly blended, supercharged ingredients including Hyaluronic Acid and powerful Peptides, this cleanser has everything your skin needs.
Tried and tested, we LOVE this gel cleanser. Refreshing and deep cleaning, this cleanser removes all pore-clogging impurities, which makes it ideal for acne-prone skin.
TOP TIP
Keep in mind that we’re listing all the active ingredients you should use, but that doesn’t mean you should use them all and definitely not all in the same skincare routine e.g. it’s not recommended to use an AHA and a retinol together. It’s up to you to choose the products that will suit your skin needs and goals.
Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are a type of chemical exfoliant that can be used to help even out the skin’s appearance and work on a surface level. However, despite that fact, AHAs are known to cause irritation and sensitivity so make sure you spend your time researching and trying out a few products in plenty of time before the wedding day. AHAs are generally preferred for normal to dry skin.
Popular AHAs include glycolic acid and lactic acid, which are best known for their anti-ageing properties due to their exfoliation of skin cells.
This gel is an exfoliating peel with a 10% glycolic acid complex that intends to brighten skin and support your production of collagen by encouraging cell regeneration that targets fine lines and enlarged pores.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% is an exfoliating lightweight serum that works to minimise uneven texture with gentle chemical exfoliation. We love it because the serum is free from oil, silicone and alcohol, and is also vegan and cruelty-free.
This gel is actually an AHA and BHA gel that uses a combination of glycolic, tartaric, citric and salicylic acids to provide an effective chemical exfoliation that reduces excess oil production.
This vegan serum has a 10% lactic acid formula that works to gently resurface your complexion and increase cell turnover to leave you with smooth and hydrated skin.
Beta hydroxy acids (BHAs) are another type of chemical exfoliant that works on the skin’s surface. BHAs exfoliate the top layer of skin to reveal the healthier, more radiant skin underneath. They can also penetrate the skin's natural oil to exfoliate and unclog pores, which is why they’re used a lot by people with acne-prone skin.
Salicylic acid is the most popular BHA as it is used in most acne-prone products and gently removes build-up in the pores.
"For acne, brides should incorporate salicylic acid (BHA) and a gentle retinol months in advance. Spot treatments with benzoyl peroxide or sulfur-based products can help calm breakouts," says Sophie Cullen, Beauty Editor at The Bridal Beauty Co.
A global bestseller, if you’re going to add BHA into your routine, this is an option that won’t steer you wrong. Use it as a toner consistently to see incredible results!
Exfoliate and hydrate at the same time with this serum. The BHA serum is powered by 2% salicylic acid which unclogs and minimises large pores while removing dead skin cells. 1% hyaluronic acid enriches the formula, hydrating the skin to resist feeling stripped or dry.
Crafted using natural salicylic acid, this serum is powerful but soothing at the same time with niacinamide, organic rose water and purifying essential oils to leave you feeling refreshed.
This toner from COSRX is the secret to clarifying your skin. Using a 4% natural BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) to help decongest pores and reduce blackhead formation, the toner will reduce blackheads and excess sebum.
TOP TIP
It’s important to note with any active ingredients that you should build up your tolerance to them slowly. If you’ve never used these ingredients before, make sure you start with a low dosage just once a week until you can slowly increase your usage without side effects.
Retinoids and retinol are vitamin A derivatives that can improve the appearance of your skin by stimulating skin cell renewal, encouraging collagen production, and accelerating cellular turnover. Because of this, they’re incredibly effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines, helping with pigmentation and treating acne. Stronger concentrations of retinoids are usually available by prescription but retinol can be found in cosmetics and skincare products.
Adapalene, tretinoin, retinaldehyde and retinol are popular types of retinoid/retinol.
This Crystal Retinal offers a level of retinal stability that can only be found at Medik8, which means you’ll see less of those scary side effects of using a retinol. After using just one tube of this stuff, you’ll see results!
Sometimes you get what you pay for and with this Pure Retinol complex, you’ll see renewed and rejuvenated skin. Formulated without irritants, allergens, or synthetic fragrances, this is perfect for those with ageing, oily or acne-prone skin.
If you’ve never used any kind of retinoid before, we recommend this entry-level serum as your first port of call. An active level of 0.2% HPR means fine lines, dark marks and breakouts will appear visibly reduced.
Worried about the dryness that comes with retinol use? This treatment utilises oat to help minimise feelings of sensitivity and dryness post-application. It works wonders with consistent use.

Don’t forget, if you’re using any active ingredients in your skincare routine from AHAs, BHAs or retinoids, you should ALWAYS wear an SPF! No excuses!
Vitamin C is just the magic ingredient that ties everything together. Vitamin C helps the body produce collagen and is best known for its brightening properties. Vitamin C is an antioxidant, which means it can help fight toxins from air pollution and other pollutants. It's suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. If you live in the city, it’s a must! Because of these properties, this ingredient is also great for reducing the appearance of fine lines, helping with hyperpigmentation or redness, soothing sun damage or sensitive skin as well as helping with darker under eyes.
To tackle hyperpigmentation, Sophie Cullen, Beauty Editor at The Bridal Beauty Co recommends "a combination of vitamin C, niacinamide, and SPF is essential. For more stubborn dark spots, ingredients like azelaic acid or kojic acid can help lighten discolouration over time."
With a 15% concentration of vitamin C this serum visibly illuminates, balances and protects the skin from dulling pollutants and aggressors.
C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum, powered by 15% advanced Vitamin C, is targeted to quickly fight the look of dullness, dark spots, and discolourations at the source. This product pairs so perfectly if you’re also using a retinol!
Shielding the skin from damaging free radicals caused by pollution and UV rays, this potent serum delivers instant radiance and illumination. Exactly what you want in your bridal skincare routine.
These guys are really experts, which explains the higher price point. This product has an antioxidant combination of 15% pure vitamin C, 1% vitamin E, and 0.5% ferulic acid to brighten, firm and neutralise signs of ageing.
It goes without saying that moisturiser is essential, but it can be even more so when you’re focusing on healing or keeping your skin barrier intact while using active ingredients or having regular facials. It’s also important to consider the seasons or the climate where you live. In the autumn and winter months, you may want a thicker moisturiser with more emollients. In the spring and summer, you can use a lighter moisturiser with a gel formula. Above all, you should look for ingredients like ceramides and glycerin in your facial moisturiser.
We love this refreshing green tint moisturiser that is supercharged with a combination of oil-absorbing and balancing ingredients to help reduce redness and support a clearer complexion for blemish-prone skin.
Featuring squalane, hyaluronic acid and Japanese purple rice, this cream is all about nourishing to give you that radiant, dewy look that lasts by retaining moisture and healing the skin barrier.
Offering up to 48 hours of hydration, the LANEIGE Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Gel Moisturiser saturates the skin in refreshing, soothing moisture. Ideal for oily skin with its gel texture.
Formulated to suit all skin types, the daily moisturiser delivers up to 24 hours of hydration for a visibly smoother and softer complexion. It’s an iconic must-have for so many.
Formulated with powerful botanicals, natural vitamins, potent antioxidants, and essential bionutrients, it reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving skin smooth and soft. Suitable for all skin types and ages, this versatile moisturiser can be used morning and evening.
The wedding day skincare routine should focus on hydrating and plumping to give you that youthful and ethereal bridal glow. We asked the team at The Bridal Beauty Co for their ultimate bridal morning routine!
"On the wedding morning, keep skincare simple and hydrating. Cleanse gently, apply a lightweight moisturiser or hydrating prime and use SPF if outdoors, ensuring it layers well under makeup. An eye mask can reduce puffiness, and staying hydrated enhances your natural glow - pop in the fridge for an instant cooling effect!
Avoid new products, over-exfoliating, or heavy oils, as they can cause irritation or makeup issues. Don’t forget lip care—exfoliate and use a balm for smooth lipstick application. A consistent pre-wedding routine and a minimal, effective approach on the day will ensure a flawless, radiant look."
Begin by using an oil-based cleanser to remove any skincare from the night, followed by a water-based cleanser to deeply clean the skin, ensuring a fresh and smooth canvas.
Apply a hydrating toner to balance the skin's pH, followed by targeted serums (like hyaluronic acid for hydration or vitamin C for brightness) to address specific skin concerns.
Use a cooling gel eye mask to reduce puffiness and brighten the under-eye area, leaving you looking refreshed and well-rested. You can leave this on while you’re getting your hair done to get in that pamper mood!
Seal in hydration with a lightweight yet nourishing moisturiser that keeps your skin plump and radiant throughout the day. Don't forget your lip balm too!
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from UV, ensuring your complexion stays flawless and protected all day long.
Finish with a refreshing hydrating mist to lock in moisture and give your skin a natural, dewy glow—perfect to begin your makeup application and give a lasting bridal glow.
