Inspiration

Now, you may recognise this floral embroidery dress. That would be because it recently sold over on Recycle My Wedding! Marli and Russell were married on a beautifully botanical day, filled with plenty of DIY elements from family and friends. In fact, Marli’s parents grew and put together all the flower arrangements! Wanting a relaxed day, they opted for the Langford Lakes as their venue, which gave them an opportunity to ensure things were as eco-friendly as possible. From wildflower seed favours to ethical jewellery, to a cake topper that’s now a decoration in their home! Oh, and Mari’s Converse trainer choice? We approve.

Floral embroidery dress for relaxed wedding day

I knew I didn't want a traditional white wedding dress. Originally I was looking online for coloured dresses, but was not having any luck. When I stumbled across Tonena's Etsy store I knew it was the one with its pretty whimsical floral embroidery. Tonena and her team are extremely talented and made my dress to my exact measurements and requests, its absolutely stunningly crafted. The floral dress was perfect for me and the most perfect fit for our nature theme. I am so so pleased I went for something a bit different. So many people comment on how beautiful the dress is when they see the wedding photos.

DIY

We asked family to make lots of different elements of the Wedding, and I love that everyone chipped in to make the day special. My Nanna making the cake, my amazing parents growing and putting together all the flower arrangements - which I think really made the venue look incredible. The aisle looks amazing with the bamboo and flower decorations. My sister in-law made the scrummy cupcakes, my dad made the cupcake tower and I made the Wedding invites, place names and wooden signs around the venue. We are very much a "DIY" family and this worked for our informal wedding.

SUPPLIERS

We used suppliers that we already knew about or from word of mouth. From the buffet food to the jewellers. Alex Monroe was a must for our jewellery and rings for the day, we love that its made in the UK and that my engagement ring is an ethical natural coloured sapphire. Everything we chose was because it was a little different and not your "standard" go to for a wedding. We wanted a wedding that reflected who we were. One reason we chose the lakes was because the venue hire cost would go to supporting the local wildlife conservation.

Embroidered and appliqué wedding gowns really are a showstopper!

Our favourite moment was once we were officially married and walking down the aisle as Mr and Mrs and being covered in confetti. Just the feeling of sheer happiness and joy that we could just enjoy the rest of the day with our family and friends. We also just loved the time we took to walk around the lakes with the photographer, it was such a relaxed and happy time to enjoy the moment of just getting married.

Marli & Russell

Not only was Marli’s floral embroidery dress stunning, but it was also the perfect reflection of who she is! Whether it’s a coloured gown, or a short dress, ensure it’s who you are! Don’t forget, you can head on over to Recycle My Wedding to see lots more preloved gowns.
