Inspiration

We have a feeling that using your home or a family members garden for wedding celebrations is going to become a very popular choice over the next couple of months. Especially when you can have a gorgeous day like Olivia & Charlie's, which was full of DIY decor and wildflowers nurtured, cut and arranged by sister-in-law Hayley. Even the rain couldn't dampen their spirits as they said I do under umbrellas and went ahead with the outdoor nuptials as planned. Their beaming smiles captured by Virginia Photography say it all.

What Made Our Day Unique

Our day was unique because it took place in the garden of Charlie’s mother’s family home which was very special to us both. We had a beautiful ceremony that was personalised to reflect our individualities and was a perfect way to show our love for one another to our dearest family and friends. We chose our own vows and each said something different that was heartfelt and meaningful. We had an outdoor ceremony which felt relaxed and comfortable, guests were seated on straw bales and a family friend played the piano. During the ceremony it rained which meant that everybody was huddled under umbrellas, it didn’t spoil our day and we felt it made it even more special and memorable. We poured our hearts and souls into the preparation and planning of the wedding which meant that almost everything was sourced or made by ourselves or family and friends.

Garden for Wedding

Using Charlie's parent's home and garden for wedding celebrations gave the gorgeous couple, free reign over the day. Olivia got ready in the kitchen, they held an outdoor ceremony with guests sitting on hay bales and then enjoyed a reception under a marquee filled with the most wonderful DIY decor. There were wooden barrels, pallets and signs; plus, wildflower centrepieces and displays resting on tree slices. All of this fabulous DIY decor ensured they kept a tight hold of the budget, but it certainly didn't mean they forfeit on any of the details.

Despite the grey clouds and rain, Olivia's favourite moment of the day was walking down the aisle. There are simply some things you can't control (like the weather) and you can still have the perfect day, no matter what. Listen to our When Things Go Wrong Podcast for some helpful advice and tips.
