Inspiration

We're adding a little magic to your Tuesday with a creative Harry Potter wedding at Hazel Gap Barn. Grooms Joe and Jay poured their absolute heart and soul into decorating the rustic setting with the bright house colours and details from the wizarding world, including a Ford Anglia wedding car and individual wands which they DIYed for each and every one of their wedding guests.

What Made Our Day Unique

Although each wedding is magical, we decided to add a bit of a twist to ours, bringing that magic to life. Having a traditional wedding was never on the cards for us, so we decided to have a bit of fun and bring our love of Harry Potter to the day. From the first day of planning, we got creative and had a specific vision in mind. We strayed away from store-bought wedding decorations and decided to make everything from the invites to the table décor. Having a hands-on approach and being directly involved in bringing the vision to life truly made the day unique.

Harry Potter Wedding

With having a Harry Potter wedding comes a beautiful array of bright colours. The forest greens, golden yellows, deep burgundy and navy house colours could be seen in banners, bunting and the wedding party fashion, including Joe and Jay's very own wedding suits which complement one another beautifully. Joe and Jay are not the only same-sex couple to incorporate a Harry Potter wedding theme into their day, Paul and Reece also added a little magic into their winter wedding.

Inspiration & Styling

Due to the date being in November, we went for an autumnal wildflower theme with the flowers and candles in the barn during the ceremony. However, the bar and dining area were kitted out with Harry Potter in mind, including Hogwarts house banners, bunting, artwork and many objects relating to different classrooms. With the invitation came a dress code, with guests asked to dress in the colours of the house they were sorted into, and we felt this made for a more relaxed than a completely formal affair, which we loved.

Joe & Jay
Joe & Jay made each and every one of their 150 weddings guests a unique wand to take home. Starting off with just wooden sticks, they sanded each to a wand shape, used a hot glue gun to create a handle type effect at one end, spray paint each one and then painting finer details over the glue to create a wooden effect in different colours. They also made personalised Harry Potter trunks, Bertie Botts boxes and different decorations for each table as everyone had a specific theme (lesson).
