This shoot idea has been living rent-free in my head for at least 5 years. The film 'Strictly Ballroom' was one of my favourites growing up, bold, brash and beautiful. I also hold in my heart a special place for anything associated with Spanish dance as my stories of my grandmother's dance career loomed large through childhood. I brought together a team of creative, London based wedding suppliers to style a wedding for a couple as obsessed with these themes as me, for a fun, modern, cultural blend wedding full of colour and dance.
I wanted to give ‘fiesta’ vibes as if the wedding party happened behind Fran’s father’s shop from the film. The eclectic influences in Baz Lurhman's film 'Strictly Ballroom' lend themselves amazingly well to creating a cultural blend wedding. Our florist referenced the tropical Australian setting with the tropical foliage and bright flowers. The Spanish influence ran strong through the wedding couple's outfits and having live guitar for the ceremony and dancing.
