Inspiration

A moon neon sign? Asylum wedding? Recommended Supplier, Mark Horton Photos? You know it’s going to be good! Jessica & Ryan wanted their day to feel relaxed, fun and very personal to them! Having met whilst Ryan was doing a PhD in astrophysics, he lured Jessica into a first date with promises of facts about the stars. Incorporating this into their day, Jessica wore a celestial crown and a dress dotted with stars. Whilst Ryan wore star-themed cufflinks, their day also featured moons and constellations dotted throughout… can you spot them!?

Moon neon sign for Asylum wedding

We decided to lean on our story and chose a lot of Celestial elements to pull into the decor, stationery and outfits. This way we could celebrate some of the aspects that brought us together.

MOON NEON SIGN & DIY WEDDING

As much as we’re absolutely loving the neon signage, Jessica & Ryan’s day also included plenty of DIY aspects! They tracked down Pampas Grass on Facebook Marketplace and raided it, hand drying and hair spraying each stem. They also drove to Croydon to get a Sainsbury's Bag For Life full of plastic animals. Which they then spray painted and used as place cards and favours! Jessica made a clay model of their beloved cat Bowie, who was keeping a watchful eye over the doughnuts. Jessica’s brother also made their 'guest book' a la 'After The Tone' by converting an old rotary phone into a recording device - how awesome is that!?

CEREMONY

Jessica & Ryan wrote their ceremony together and had a close friend act as the celebrant on the day. Jessica thought because they had written the ceremony in such detail it would feel a bit like ticking a box, but somehow, it felt completely new to them. Their friends read beautiful poems, and their mothers wrapped their hands in ribbon as part of the handfasting ceremony. They then went on to read their own vows. Everyone in the room laughed and cried. Jessica & Ryan felt like they could burst with nerves, excitement and love throughout. We’re not crying, you are!

ADVICE

We’ll leave this one to Jessica & Ryan! “Prioritise what is important to you! We are foodies, so selecting an amazing bar to make us post-ceremony cocktails and a pub with a great reputation for food was crucial for us. We also wanted amazing memories of the big day so investing in our photographer (and a second shooter) was an easy decision. Try not to get swept up in the Instagram-ification of weddings and remember comparison is the thief of joy - remember what you want the day to feel like and don't feel the pressure to have or do something just because others have done it!”

Aren’t you loving Ryan’s suit? We love seeing our grooms styling it up!

We kept our wedding small personal; close friends and family. We wrote our own ceremony, designed our own decor and stationery and made a day that felt special and magical to share with our loved ones.
