Newburgh Priory Outdoor Wedding with Foliage Decor & An Italian Twist

Photography by Bloom Weddings
Alice & Charlie created a beautiful outdoor humanist ceremony in the ruins of Newburgh Priory. Their wedding followed a very wet June and it was the first day of sun which broke through the clouds whilst the couple said their vows. Making the most of the picturesque and breathtaking views the couple stole a moment together for some special shots before the heavens opened causing a very fun and mad dash to the marquee to continue the celebrations. All of the floral touches from the bouquets to the olive trees that lined the aisle were created by the bride, and her family and friends. Perfectly combining textures and warm colours with pampas grass to suit their theme of bringing the outside, inside and creating their very own idyllic Tuscan oasis.

What Made Our Day Unique

We have never felt so loved as we did on our wedding day. It’s true what they say about it really being the best day - surrounded by all the people you care about the most. So many of our friends and family had been involved in bringing everything together that ultimately, it felt like a huge celebration for everyone. Our first dance performed by the incredible Chromatic really set the tone of the evening and got everyone fired up. During the band break, our family had arranged surprise fireworks for us and our guests out on the lawn overlooking the lake. They were breathtaking and gave everyone an excuse to go outside and cool down before the final stint of partying!

Newburgh Priory

Newburgh Priory is a beautiful country estate house set amidst the rolling North Yorkshire Howardian Hills, it is steeped in history and had long been a favourite of this couples. The long gallery is breathtaking and created the perfect backdrop for their ceremony. It was also so important for this couple to have a blank canvas and somewhere where they could source independent and boutique suppliers. Alice looked amazing in her dress by Laure de Sagazan which she teamed with a pair of statement animal print shoes and a gold embellished headband. The bridesmaids all wore emerald green dresses which looked perfect next to the bouquets, the bride gave them all a mood board and a budget so that they could pick a dress that they felt comfortable in and suited their own personal styles.

Inspiration & Styling

The long gallery garden ruin provided a stunning and natural backdrop for our ceremony. We continued this theme throughout, bringing the outside, inside, with an Italian twist. All the flowers - from bouquets to favours, table decorations to trees, overhanging ladders and floral displays were done by family and friends. We wanted them wild and green, with warm hues that reflected the rolling hills of the Tuscan countryside. We loved the idea of injecting some gold, so sourced the candlesticks and vases from charity shops and online, opting for gold cutlery and gold ceramic olive leaves for the place settings.

Advice

It’s the most special day - and it’s your day. So do it your way. Spend as much of it as you can with your new husband/ wife and enjoy the party! Oh and get a video made! Working in the film industry, we were conscious not to feel like we had a camera on us all day. Anni and Chris from Bloom Weddings were so discreet and felt just like additional wedding guests. They could not have captured our day more perfectly.

This couples advice is to get a video of your special day made and we absolutely agree. There are tonnes of perks to having a wedding videographer, photos are great, but there’s something extra special about motion. Capturing the way you moved, the way you laughed, how your dress floated, the words of the speeches and the exchanging of vows. Memories to last a lifetime. If you're on the fence we have a podcast dedicated to why you need a wedding videographer, it's definitely worth a listen. rock my wedding forum
