Outdoor Wedding Games & Homemade Details

We wanted the day to speak to the sanctity of marriage whilst not being stuffy in the slightest. The ceremony included a speech taken from the Obergefell v. Hodges US Supreme court case legalising Gay Marriage in the states. (James and I both read Law at university, so it was a nice nod to that). The rest of the day was a summer fete vibe with games on the field; wang a welly, space hooper racing, tug of war - you name it! It was the hottest day of the year and felt like a summer festival - perfect.

After spending a very difficult year apart from friends and family due to the pandemic, it was the most unbelievable atmosphere on the day. Not only was it the wedding day people were celebrating, but also friends being reunited with friends, parents with children, families seeing each other for the first time in well over a year. All the missed events were celebrated that day, the birthdays, Christmases, christenings, new jobs, house moves etc. The losses were also finally felt and shared collectively. The power of these multitude of minor events being celebrated alongside the wedding was life affirming.
