What's Your Wedding Videography Style?

Photography by Stephanie Butt Photography

Your wedding videos are an investment that lasts a lifetime. They allow you to actually rewatch your day, see all those moments you missed and keep treasured footage of family and friends including loved ones who now may no longer be with us. With a wedding videographer, you get to actually relive one of the best days of your life, which goes by so fast - there's so much happening, and so many people to talk to, so it's easy to blink and miss it! But how do you decide what style of videography is right for you? We spoke to our expert Recommended Videographers to help break down their different styles…

Our complete guide to wedding videography to help you decide what style is right for you

Why should you have a wedding film/wedding videographer?

A wedding film or videographer captures the very heart of your wedding day, preserving moments in a way that photos perhaps can’t. Videos can capture the genuine emotions, laughter, and tears. Wedding videos can be shared with loved ones who couldn’t be present and are also a beautiful way of memorialising loved ones.

With every real wedding we share, we ask for advice from the couple and one of the most common answers we receive is that the couple regrets not having a videographer. Is there really any price you can put on capturing some of the most incredible memories you’ll make?

Having a wedding film captures the essence of your special day, preserving the emotions, moments, family character traits, and memories (and friend's dance moves) that photos alone cannot. Don't get me wrong, you should 100% always get a photographer, and obviously while I am biased, I genuinely think a videographer is one of the most important choices to say yes to for your wedding day.

Do couples need a wedding photographer and videographer?

Of course, you don’t need to have both! Wedding photos are so incredible and definitely allow you to look back on the wedding day for years to come. But to really be able to relive the emotions of the day, there's no substitute for a professionally put-together film. It all depends on your wedding budget. If your budget allows, video preserves the personalities and reactions of you, your family, and your guests in motion. They’re especially amazing for readings, vows, and speeches since they capture the full spectrum of motion and sound. Imagine sitting with your partner on your wedding anniversary, rewatching your video together! What an incredible gift to each other! Your wedding film will help you remember so many moments you’ve forgotten and see moments you weren't even aware of happening!

How can couples work out what videography style/videographer would be right for them?

Your wedding films have to reflect you, so it's important to look around at what's out there and go for a style you love. The easiest way to decide what's right for you is by watching some videos and seeing what you like and dislike. Whether that be the epic party shots, the emotional use of speeches and vows, the focus on family and friends enjoying themselves or the dramatic couple shots. Enquire and have a call to see if you get on and that you'll be happy inviting this person along with you to capture one of the best days of your life! Meeting with potential videographers is key! Reviews and testimonials also offer valuable perspectives from couples who have experienced their work. It’s also really important to watch full films, not just social media clips!

There are many variations in film styles, lengths, editing pace, and more. So we’re here to help you make that decision a little bit easier by breaking down the different wedding videography styles.

Wedding Videography Styles - Cinematic

Cinematic wedding videography is a style of wedding videography that aims to create a film-like experience. Key characteristics of this style include a storytelling approach created by high-quality equipment, meticulous editing and a variety of aerial views, slow motion, and close-ups to add drama and interest. The aim of cinematic wedding films is to make the wedding day feel like a feature movie rather than a simple recording of events.

Time & Oath

Time & Oath crafts elegant and romantic wedding films with a classic, refined feel and a cinematic style. The result is a creative, clean, and graceful video that is both personal and emotional, capturing the narrative of your day. “We take pride in focusing not just on the big moments, but also on the small details that make the day unique to each couple, editing them into a 5-10 minute highlight film. My pricing is straightforward and transparent, with details available on my website. Packages start from £1800 and offer various options. I don’t charge by the hour; I’m there from bridal prep until about an hour after your first dance. If things run late, I simply stay longer, so you don’t have to worry about additional charges or me leaving at a set time.”

White wedding film

White Wedding Film likes taking videos in a cinematic style, that are based on natural and right special angles of capturing people and moments candidly. Their pricing options are based on the couple's needs, including a short film with a short overview of the most important moments of their wedding, and a full film that includes a wider view of their wedding day and has longer timing. A custom package could be a better choice for those who would like special edits.

Wedding Videography Styles - Documentary

Documentary wedding videography focuses on capturing the wedding day in a natural, unobtrusive manner, much like a documentary film. It aims to tell the real story of the couple's wedding day. It will be told in the order of the wedding day with minimal interference from your videographer throughout the day. There will be a focus on smaller details and won't use as many artificial enhancements. Documentary wedding videography is about creating an honest and intimate portrayal of the wedding day, highlighting the emotions and interactions that make it unique and memorable.

FJB Visuals

FJB Visuals is a documentary wedding videographer. “I define my style as natural and joyful, focusing on creating videos that are full of the emotion of your day, and capture your wedding story naturally, allowing you to forget about the camera and enjoy your day. I'm often told by couples that they didn't even notice I was there, which I like to take as a compliment! I aim to blend into the background to capture the day organically and discreetly, because let's face it, no one wants to feel like they have a camera in their face all day! I offer either full-day packages from £1,250 or a 4-hour elopement package from £650. All packages include drone footage, travel, and videos presented on a USB as well as via online download. All my packages include a teaser video and highlights film, as well as options for videos of your ceremony and speeches in full, as well as feature films, content creation, and video albums.”

AWB Films

AWB Films is another documentary-style videographer we love. “I work on the day in a documentary style that is unobtrusive and natural. Inspired by a background in documentary television and film, this approach focuses on capturing genuine moments and emotions as they unfold and then crafting a narrative that feels authentic and heartfelt and that tells their story and will help relive each moment from the day. My packages range from shorter 1-2 minute social media teasers to 5-10 minute highlight films right through to longer format feature edits. I then offer optional add-ons such as a long format feature film of all the best shots of the day, a full ceremony edit or additional videographers on request.”

Little Moments Films

Little Moments Films describes their style as joyful and documentary, with a heavy focus on capturing authentic moments of family and friends. "I love to capture genuine laughter and joy with a mix of heartfelt emotions that capture the personality of the couple. I want my couples to watch their film and think, "Wow, this is so us and our day was truly incredible!" In terms of my pricing options, I offer a simple one-package offer for £2750 which includes two videographers, a video for the ceremony and speeches and a 6-10 minute film. I do have the option for additional extras. You can relax and enjoy your day being truly in the present, knowing that it's being captured to be enjoyed again and again!"

Wedding Videography Styles - Storytelling

Storytelling wedding videography focuses on weaving a narrative through the footage. It's a blend of cinematic and documentary styles, designed to create a compelling and cohesive story. This is why there will be more speeches and voice-overs with a focus on the more emotional and impactful moments throughout the wedding day. Editing may be more creative than a documentary style to enhance certain aspects.

Signature Wedding Films

Signature Wedding Films are all about emotion-filled storytelling wedding films with a cinematic flair. "I focus less on posing the day and more on documenting the connections and emotions with the couple and their family and friends. If I can make a stranger laugh and cry at your wedding film, I have done my job. I take inspiration from cinema when I come to edit my films. Focusing on quality sound and film-like colour. I have set packages to give couples a guide who need the constraints, but most of my pricing is derived from a consultation call. I cater for couples with budgets between £2k - £5k, the average couple spends around £3k. For that, they get highlight-style wedding films (approx 5 mins) and the ceremony and speeches in full as separate videos. I limit my weddings to just 19 per year to provide the best experience."

Aloha London Wedding Films

At Aloha London Films, our style is centred around a more ‘authentic wedding cinema’ experience. Imagine your film being played on a large screen at home or in a cinema. We steer away from posed shots, opting instead for a natural and organic feel. We believe that real beauty lies in candid emotions and interactions, and our aim is to highlight these authentic moments. What sets us apart is our dedication to storytelling through sound. We artfully weave together the heartfelt vows, touching speeches, and ambient sounds of your day. This holistic approach guarantees that our films are more than just recordings—they are immersive stories that capture the love and joy of your wedding day. Amidst all the decisions that come with wedding planning, simplicity is paramount for our couples. We aim to streamline the process with clear, all-inclusive pricing. Choose between our popular 7-minute highlight film or the comprehensive 15-minute feature film. Additionally, we offer separate full-length films of the ceremony and speeches.”

Black Sheep Films

Black Sheep Films creates cinematic and timeless wedding films that transport you back to your big day, allowing you to relive all the special moments with the same depth of intensity and feeling. “I’m big on authenticity - capturing all the unique little details that you have spent months or years (or decades!) preparing. I’m a wedding videographer for people that don’t want to do endless posing or turn their wedding day into a film set. I use minimal equipment, aiming to blend into the background of your wedding. For most of the day I use a single handheld camera, allowing me to shoot discretely and stay unnoticed - this means that you and your guests are able to enjoy the day and feel at ease and that the moments I capture are genuine and authentic reflections of all your favourite people. I have one main package option that includes a highlight film and a separate film of the speeches in full. I then have a number of optional add-ons (for example a ceremony film, 2nd videographer etc). that couples can choose from.”

Wedding Videography Styles - Vintage

Vintage wedding videography is a style that aims to evoke a nostalgic and timeless feel, like old home movies or classic films. This approach can give the wedding video a unique charm and a sense of nostalgia. Some videographers might even use actual vintage film cameras or just add film grain, light leaks and texture in the editing. Titles and graphics in retro fonts are more common in this style too. The storytelling aspect is still crucial in vintage wedding videography too.

Films About Love

Films About Love has a candid and creative style. "I have a very relaxed and natural approach on a wedding day with the aim of capturing the perfect moments rather than the perfect shots. If a client chooses to have genuine Super 8 Footage in their films then that will give the final video a more vintage and nostalgic look. I am inspired by my couples and the look and theme of their day. I am also inspired by documentary filmmakers and how those films are crafted when it comes to the edit. From intimate ceremonies to big celebrations, I have a package that’s the perfect fit for your day. My packages include feature and highlight films, speeches and ceremony films, genuine Super 8 Footage, uncensored guest messages, aerial drone footage and more! There is also the option to build your very own bespoke package. For 2025 weddings prices start at £2,200."

Tips & Advice From Our Recommended Videographers

Our Recommended Videographers recommend asking your videographer's approach to filming on the day. Most will stay in the background, rarely asking you to pose or set up shots. Some don't use lights, radio mics, or steady cams. It's important for couples to know that they can have a beautiful film, capturing the entirety of their day, without feeling awkward at any point (or like there's a Hollywood film crew running around their wedding!). It doesn't have to be invasive.

The other main thing is just a reminder to make sure to take moments throughout the day to take it all in. The day is going to fly by, and yes, having a videographer there will help with capturing so many of the moments and memories of the day, but it's especially important to be present and savour each moment as it happens.

It's so hard to know where to start with the plethora of amazing videographers that you can find online by googling but using a site like Rock My Wedding is a great place to start as then you can quickly access lots of videographers, view their work and do a quick vibe check and you'll know as they've been featured on Rock My Wedding they're respected in the wedding industry.
