Inspiration

Real bride, Valerie's registry wedding dress was short, flirty and perfect for this micro wedding in Chelsea. She completed her look with a bridal crown, birdcage veil and killer shoes. Plus, red blooms to pay homage to her Chinese heritage. Together with her new beau and, Recommended supplierRichard Murgatroyd Photography, they took to the streets of London, stopping traffic as they went and being greeted with toots from passing taxies and buses. Love wins!

After getting engaged in September 2018 and planning two wedding receptions for over 300 people (in London and Hong Kong), we ended up organising a micro-wedding of 15 people at Chelsea Old Town Hall due to COVID-19! It was planned in under 3 weeks, after re-arranging 3 times and contemplating a secret elopement! In the end, it was exactly as we hoped given the circumstances.

CHINESE WEDDING CUSTOMS & REGISTRY WEDDING DRESS

We consciously blended English and Chinese wedding customs to honour our roots, with a wedding breakfast and cream registry wedding dress, while guests were asked to wear something red, and the florals were also accented with autumn reds, for luck.

CHELSEA

We chose a local (and iconic) institution - Chelsea Old Town Hall - for our ceremony, and another beloved Chelsea institution - The Bluebird - for our reception - ostensibly due to the pandemic, but it was also wonderful to get married so close to our long-time home.

MOMENTS

Stepping onto the historic steps of Chelsea Old Town Hall and into the cheers and well wishes of our loved ones, plus those who dialled in from several countries via Zoom. While photographs of newlyweds on the stairs under confetti are epic, the moment itself was so much better!

Valerie and Scott had many a bus and taxi toot in celebration of them getting married.

Our micro-wedding was only possible because we kept the focus on the most important thing to us - getting married! We had to let go of a lot of plans, pre-paid bookings, expectations and wishes - our own as well as those of family and friends - but felt strongly about getting married in 2020 and made it happen through open communication and plenty of compromises. With any budget, choose what matters the most to you and spend wisely - for us, this was our photographer and florist, and we allocated our spend more in their direction.

We've seen a huge increase in couples having registry office weddings due to COVID-19. And whilst their weddings may have been small, the love and fashion have been mighty. We've put together an article to help you find a registry wedding dress (or jumpsuit) to suit you.
