We LOVE Autumn here at Rock My Wedding, the colours, the textures, those cold crisp days when the sun is soft and everything just looks so beautiful…it’s also a wonderful time of year to get married – there’s a wealth of stunning natural foliage and decor available to you, the colour palette is rich and deep but also muted and soft, and the chill in the air gives you the perfect excuse to invest in a pretty cover up for the evening.
Over the years we have featured some seriously beautiful Autumn weddings on the blog, and today we’ve gathered them together in a post to inspire you if your big day falls in this season. We’ve also included some of our favourite pieces of jewellery from De Beers because they would just make the Autumnal wedding looks just that little bit more special…
Pin The Mood Board
What could be more perfect for an Autumnal wedding than jewellery that actually looks like a flower and intricately entwined leaves? The Adonis Rose solitaire ring and band are just so delicate and dainty – they are the ultimate subtle nod to the season.
Then, in warm pink gold, with a champagne coloured diamond, is the Caress ring. You know we love the feminine hue of pink gold, but we particularly love it for an Autumn wedding as it reflects the striking colours of the season – the gorgeous pink sun sitting low in the sky, leaves that turn blush before falling off the trees, those pretty berries that start to fill the branches before the chill of Winter comes in…pink is most definitely an Autumnal shade.
If you’re wearing flowers in your hair, like some of the Brides in our mood board above, we’d recommend minimal jewellery – the classic pendant and the pavé sleeper earrings are perfect. Enough sparkle to draw the eye, but subtle enough to allow you to wear blooms in your hair.
And as De Beers jewellery is of the utmost in design, craftmanship and materials, you are investing in heirloom pieces, but they can also be worn everyday, reminding you of your wedding and making you smile.
Possibly one of our ALL TIME favourite ever weddings, never mind our favourite ever Autumnal wedding, was that of Ciara & Gary. Ciara looked perfect in a heavily embellished bespoke gown made in Korea Town LA, based on designs by Anna Campbell. And to keep off the chill in the air, she wore a faux fur stole in a gorgeous sandy colour which complimented her auburn hair perfectly and finished it all off with a sweeping cathedral length veil. There is definitely something about Autumn that calls for texture, and one of the best ways to pay homage to this is with the boys suits. The blue suit in our moodboard above comes from one of our favourite tailors, Jack Bunneys – we love the addition of a checked waistcoat and matching pocket square to bring some character to the look. You can see Groom Simon’s suit in action here, images from Lina and Tom.
This is where you can really go to town – think harvest festival, fill your venue with seasonal produce. Autumn colours are fabulous, rich, heady and vibrant – they don’t need any extra styling. Just throw in candles. And lots of them. The idea is to create a cozy atmosphere that draws guests in from the cold. Some of our favourite ideas are included in the moodboard above – apples just look so pretty, this table plan idea with apples in mason jars is GENUIS as far as I’m concerned – I just think it looks so effective. And the apples double up as delicious and healthy snacks for everyone later in the evening…(table plan from this destination wedding, with images by Mike & Tom.
Baskets of conkers and pine cones as you can see in our moodboard also look beautiful, these are essentially free wedding decor – it would just involve forage walk in your local park. You can see the pine cones in action as name places here, with images by Dasha Caffrey.
Pumpkins, squashes, gourds come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and we think they look lovely scattered along the centre of a table – you can see lots of inspiration in the moodboard above or hop over to our sister blog Rock My Style to see lots of lovely ideas for pumpkin styling and for later in the evening blankets or shawls are a lovely touch to keep people warm, and they add that all important colour/texture mix I keep mentioning.
Check out RMW Editorial ‘The Fall’ for further inspiration. You can also see the table styling include in the moodboard above in further detail – jade coloured glass has been combined with metallic hued vases and striking seasonal blooms to create a table that just begs you to sit at it. While Summer produces an abundance of bright colours, we love the more muted, deeper and richer tones of Autumn. For the fall shoot, we used hydrangea in the deepest indigo, Quicksand roses, viburnum berries, brunia and white waxflowers, along with lots of foliage and Christmas red dahlias. (Floral arrangements and that EPIC flower crown were by Mrs Umbels).
The pretty floral hair embellishment worn by one of the Brides above was featured in another stunning Autumn wedding on RMW. The bouquets were gorgeous, but this soft hued flower hair clip stole our hearts, it was created by Daisy May’s Flowers and the image is from Katherine Ashdown.
In the moodboard you can also see one of the prettiest Autumn bouquets we’ve ever seen – Sadie and Paul’s florist Grove Farm Flowers has created a masterpiece of fall colour and texture and we fall more for it every time we look at it! It’s honestly one of my favourite ever bouquets to feature on RMW. (Image by Mister Phill).
