Ladies in Red… Part 1

We don’t see many Red Weddings here at Rock My Wedding and I’d venture to say that Red has been done a bit of a disservice over the years, with a time in the recent past when there was a monotony of deep red maids in stiff satin and roses….

This wedding however is a breath of fresh air – bright, airy and modern with a simple, slightly preppy vibe and lots of London cool. All Photographed beautifully by Jodie Chapman.

Chris & Nicola were married on 27th March at Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park, Surrey.

Sleek Simplicity

My dress was by Chandrika Thomas.

I wanted something very simple and although I tried on a few bigger and fussier dresses I knew that simple and sleek was for me. My bridesmaid who is very nifty and creative made the distressed flower which was clipped to the dress at my hip to add a unique touch.

Fashion DIY

My headpiece was again made by my bridesmaid Liz who is a fashion design lecturer and maker of all little crafty bits and bobs!

I knew from the start that I wanted something like this rather than a veil, especially with my short hair, I knew it would give a different look which was what I was after.

As Liz doesn’t live nearby all the additions such as this where quite last minute and we were still fiddling with the headpiece and cutting pieces of it when we should of been in the wedding car on our way! I then opted for simple additions – tiny pearl studs and a silver bangle.

Handy Helpers

Working in magazines and arranging photo shoots as part of my day to day job meant that when it came to choosing hair and make-up artists I did already have some people to hand! I decided on Lou Morgan who I have worked with on several occasions over the years.

I wanted someone I would feel comfortable having around on the day and Lou was perfect, so calm and relaxed and it was great to have her as part of my wedding day.

Ladies in Red

For the bridesmaids the dresses were a lovely bright ruby red with a red ribbon sash and flower (you can guess who made them!) These dresses were absolute bargains, I am hesitant to reveal where they are from and how much of a bargain they were!

All the groomsmen wore hired grey suits from Moss Bros with cream waistcoats. As a thank you for the day we treated them all to a silver Ted Baker tie with a cool ornate design.

Chris decided that if ever he would buy himself a nice suit then it would be for our wedding day! So he opted for a Paul Smith suit. Also with a cream waistcoat and tie to match the ushers.

Customised Cake

Good old Marks & Spencer! We didn’t want to spend a fortune on a fancy cake, as long as there was a cake and it looked nice that was fine for us : )

We customised it with bride and groom figures that my husband made. Long story but wedding related!…Chris is a toy designer for Wow Toys.

All the toys he makes come with little figures, so prior to the wedding he adapted two figures to look like him and me. It took quite a lot of sanding, filing and painting but it was worth it!

  1. That bride is cute as a button.
Was a gorgeous little pocket rocket.
I am not a personal fan of red in weddings, but this is a burst of loveliness.

  2. Sarah – I recognise the shoes as I just ordered two pairs for my bridesmaids – they are Alexa from Rainbow Club and they are lovely! My sister usually thinks her feet look huge (being a size 8) but these are very flattering and she really likes them x

  3. It is so clean cut and modern – I love it all but especially the pleats on the bridesmaids dresses! Can’t wait for more floral photos! xox

  4. How cute are those toppers? And what a clever and creative husband! A part time business venture in the making?

    Lovely wedding! xx

  5. Yeay!!! A short haired bride!!!!
Love that colour red, makes such a change to the usual burgundy.
Can’t wait to see the rest!

  6. I’m afraid I’m one of those brides who put their best girls in burgundy satin to match my red roses… So shoot me, but I thought they looked gorgeous. Anyway, what I do like is the table decoration with the white peonies (I think?) in a tin can. And of course the cute cake topper!

  7. Loving the bright pop of red and those gorgeous anemones and ranculus gorgeous!! Beautiful bride too, can’t wait for Part 2 🙂

  8. Stunning dress, bride and flowers! Love it, not seen many weddings where red has looked really modern and fresh, and it totally does here!
Cant wait to see part 2! x

  9. I know everyone is talking about the flowers and dress ( which are beautiful) but I just love all the pics of the “stuff” like the magazines and things, really different, especially the image of shoes.

Hope that doesn’t make me sound like a loon!

  10. I love the red! And oh boy that is one cute bride, loving the short hair and the birdcage veil. Can’t wait to see the rest xx

  11. I love this. I saw it on SMP I think a while ago. I absolutely adore the red. I think sometimes it’s easy to think red with red everything else and it can look too much. This is pure class. The red is different and not too ‘bridesmaidy’ and I think it’s what makes the styling so ruddy CHIC.

The bride is beautiful and I love the dress. It’s the flowers too.

I’m hoping we see the Wellington boots in the car shot. It’s one of my favourites on Jodie’s blog.

  12. I did not know there was such a dislike to red at weddings, our colour scheme is red for our June wedding, everyone has me worried now that it will not look good…..

  13. Oooh looking for bridal shoes like these, anyone know where they are from? Love the style of this wedding, similar to what I have planned.

  14. Lynette, please DON’T worry, as I said above my colour scheme was burgundy red (and even burgundy red satin with roses…) and you know what, I think it looked great. So what if it wasn’t totally original, I LOVED it. And it’s your wedding!
